Causes and Solutions for Scratches, Abrasions, and Dents in Aluminum Alloy

Scratches, scuffs, and dents on aluminum alloys are surface damages that occur when aluminum profiles flow out of the mold cavity and come into contact with tools, equipment, and other objects during subsequent processes.

The main causes are as follows:

1. Scratches caused by manually dragging profiles on the bed;

2. Damage caused by profiles rubbing or pressing against each other during transportation;

3. Foreign objects on the mold cavity or work belt, and a work belt with low hardness, causing the surface of the work belt to injure and scratch the profiles during pressing;

4. Exposed metal or hard inclusions in graphite strips on the discharge track or bed, which may scratch the surface of the profiles when in contact;

5. Profiles getting damaged when being transferred from the discharge track to the bed by the fork rod due to excessive speed.

Common solutions:

1. Strengthen control over ingot quality;

2. Properly arrange profiles in the material frame to avoid friction as much as possible;

3. Improve mold repair quality, regularly nitride molds, and strictly follow nitriding procedures;

4. Handle with care during production, avoiding dragging or flipping profiles unnecessarily;

5. Use soft felt to isolate profiles from auxiliary tools to minimize contact damage.
